The project for the development of Spring of Nations Square in Poznań draws attention to a shift in thinking about shaping the city as a cohesive whole.
The area covered by the competition is characterized by unique terrain. It is located on a slope rising in the north-western direction of the city of Poznań. The previously undeveloped square plays a crucial role in absorbing rainwater, especially since the densely built-up city center, largely sealed with hardened surfaces, either does not allow water to pass or only allows it partially. The minimal amount of planned greenery in the city fails to fulfill its role in improving the microclimate and ventilating the city.
The project is an attempt to present ideas and solutions whose implementation has the potential to improve conditions and the quality of life on a larger scale. However, an adequate water retention system requires specialized research and would not be effective if applied only in one part of the city.
The direction of Poznań's development, seen through the prism of actions and investment decisions, shapes its future. What we decide today has consequences in the future. The project aims to create conditions that would support the forces of nature in the global system while simultaneously improving the functioning of both small and large structures that make up the city.
